Become a Member
Joining POI is the best way to stay informed and active in local and national issues. Our membership is open to everyone, regardless of political affiliation, who shares a commitment to progressive ideals and spirited, respectful dialogue. As a member, you will receive regular updates on critical legislation, invitations to exclusive events, and opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals across the islands.
Advocate & Volunteer
Advocacy is at the heart of what we do. POI actively supports progressive nominees in national, state, and local campaigns, and we rely on our community to help get out the vote. You can get involved by participating in candidate forums, joining community rallies like our recent "No Kings" event, or volunteering for voter registration drives. We also partner with local environmental and civic organizations, offering our members pathways to volunteer on issues ranging from water quality protection to social equity initiatives.

Rather than navigating three separate congressional websites and filling out three different contact forms, Democracy.io allows you to enter your address, identify your two U.S. Senators and your House Representative, and send a single personalized message to all of them at once. The platform is committed to free speech and does not pre-write or control what users say — it simply removes the friction that prevents so many people from reaching out to Congress. POI encourages every member of our community to use Democracy.io as a direct line to the legislators who represent Sanibel and Captiva in Washington, because when constituents speak up, elected officials listen.
Attend Our Events
We host a variety of events designed to educate the electorate and foster good fellowship. Our regular meetings feature guest speakers, including local leaders, political candidates, and issue experts, providing a platform for deep discussion on the topics of the times. For a more relaxed setting, join us at our monthly Happy Hour, held on the first Thursday of each month from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Make Your Voice Heard
Your vote is your most powerful tool for change. We strongly encourage all eligible citizens to register to vote and to enroll in Vote-by-Mail. Democrats and progressives who register to vote by mail are significantly more likely to cast their ballots. If you need assistance updating your voter registration, requesting a mail ballot, or finding early voting information, we provide resources and guidance to ensure your voice is heard in every election.
