  • Progressives of the Islands (POI) is a social and political action organization based on Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Our mission is to provide information on important issues confronting our community and to promote organizations and candidates that offer progressive solutions to these challenges.

  • Yes. We were originally founded as the Democratic Club of the Islands. In 2019, we became the Progressive Club of the Islands (PCI) to broaden our scope and activism. Most recently, we rebranded as Progressives of the Islands (POI) to better reflect our inclusive community of like-minded individuals uniting for shared values.

  • At our core, we value informed civic participation, inclusivity, open dialogue, environmental stewardship, and social justice. We believe that an educated electorate is essential to a healthy democracy and that meaningful change is best achieved through community collaboration.

  • Our meetings and events are open to all who would like to attend, regardless of political affiliation. We welcome anyone interested in spirited, respectful discussions about the challenges of our times and who shares a commitment to progressive ideals.

  • Yes. As part of our mission, we actively support and promote progressive nominees in national, state, and local campaigns. We regularly host candidate forums and guest speakers to help educate the electorate on where candidates stand on key issues.

  • Absolutely. We strongly encourage all eligible citizens to vote and stay engaged. We provide resources and reminders about voter registration, early voting dates, and Vote-by-Mail procedures through the Lee County Supervisor of Elections. If you need assistance updating your registration or requesting a mail ballot, we are happy to point you in the right direction.
