ABOUT US: Progressives of the Islands (POI) is a social and political action organization on Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Our mission is to provide information on important issues confronting our community and to promote organizations and candidates that offer progressive solutions to these challenges.
POI is organized to stimulate interest in political and governmental affairs, educate the electorate about pressing issues, and further progressive ideals and principles. We actively support progressive nominees in national, state, and local campaigns while fostering good fellowship among progressives throughout the islands.

Our meetings are open to all who would like to attend, regardless of political affiliation.
We urge you to encourage friends and family who enjoy spirited discussions on the topics of the times to join us.
We host a Happy Hour on the first Thursday of each month from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Blue Giraffe on Sanibel, providing a perfect opportunity to meet up, wind down, and raise a glass with fellow progressives.
Our History
The organization has deep roots in the Sanibel and Captiva communities, originally founded as the Democratic Club of the Islands. In February 2019, the membership approved significant by-law changes to broaden the club's scope and activism, officially becoming the Progressive Club of the Islands (PCI). This change reflected a desire to embrace greater opportunities for community engagement and progressive advocacy beyond strict party lines.
Most recently, the organization has evolved once again, rebranding as Progressives of the Islands (POI). This updated identity continues our long-standing tradition of fostering civic engagement, supporting progressive causes, and uniting like-minded individuals across the islands to stand up for shared values, as demonstrated by our recent successful community rallies and events.
